Somerset is in the “Scenic Wonderlands” region of Kentucky and numerous
wonderful attractions are readily available to its tourists and residents.

Guided white water rafting and 17 miles of walking
and horse trails enhance the hours of pleasure you can derive at beautiful
Cumberland Falls State Resort Park located in the Daniel Boone National
Forest. This delightful area is known as the “Niagara of the South”.
The mist of Cumberland Falls, creates the magic of a Moonbow only visible
on a clear night during a full moon. This unique phenomenon appears nowhere
else in the western hemisphere.

The Red Mile in Lexington, Kentucky.

If you are looking for the family atmosphere there is always
something interesting happening at the Kentucky Horse Park! It's
convenient location, just minutes from downtown Lexington, makes
it a great place to spend a sunny afternoon.
The park, covering 1,032 acres, has served as an active horse
farm since the late 18th century. Dedicated to all breeds of horses,
the Horse Park honors the timeless bond between man and horse,
hosting the world's premiere equestrian and show facility.

Take a trip back in time on the Kentucky River aboard the sternwheeler
Dixie Belle. You will marvel at the river’s high limestone cliffs
and untouched natural surroundings as the excursion takes you under
High Bridge, an engineering wonder when it was built in 1807. Cruises
depart regularly from Shaker Landing, near Harrodsburg, throughout
the summer.

Located in the mountains
of eastern Kentucky, the Daniel Boone National Forest encompasses over
695,404 acres of land. This land is generally rugged and characterized
by steep forested ridges, narrow valleys, and over 3,400 miles of cliff
line. The forest contains two large lakes (Cave Run Lake and Laurel River
Lake), many rivers and streams, two wilderness areas, and the 269-mile
Sheltowee Trace National Recreation Trail that extends across the length
of the forest. Abundant wildlife, lush vegetation, magnificent scenery,
and numerous recreation opportunities offer visitors much to enjoy.
The Daniel Boone National Forest is one of the most
heavily used forests in the South, with over 5 Million visitors annually.
People come here to backpack, camp, picnic, rock climb, boat, hunt, fish,
ride and relax.

CAVING ANYONE?
Kentucky underground is honeycombed with miles
and miles of passage ways. Some have guided tours and others leave
it to you to explore on your own.

The Park was established to preserve the cave system, including Mammoth
Cave, the scenic river valleys of the Green and Nolin rivers, and a section
of south central Kentucky. This is the longest recorded cave system in
the world with more than 336 miles explored and mapped.
