BLAKLEY FAMILY YMCA
This nearly new and wonderful YMCA features a 42,000 sq. ft. fitness center.
Amenities include 2 indoor swimming pools, a 5,000 sq. ft. aquatics center, a
double gymnasium, a 2,500 sq. ft. aerobics dance studio and a large meeting room
for classes and special programs. In addition to the Advanced Performance
System strength training circuits, the YMCA also installed the Cable Crossover
system, Paramount Free Weights, Smith Machine and benches.
The BLAKLEY FAMILY YMCA is a great place for family fun and fitness and
builds strong kids, strong families, and a strong community. Offers
community programs for all ages and interests, including babysitting and is
conveniently located just off Highway 80 east at 100 East Church Street.
NEWCOMERS CLUB
The Newcomers Club, founded in 1986. provides support and fellowship for women
new to the Somerset area and promotes the development of new friendships within
the community. The Club meets the 1st Monday of each month at Ponderosa
Steak House on South U.S. 27.
Social time is scheduled from 10:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. followed by a business
meeting, program, and lunch. Program speakers provide important info about
life in Somerset. Annual events include a picnic, a craft auction to
benefit local charities, and, an exciting holiday party. Special events
include garage sales, teas, potluck dinners, sightseeing, shopping, and dinner
excursions. Special interest groups give members opportunity to meet those
with common interests. These groups include trail walking, bowling, Bunco,
Bridge, Crafts, and the Club even has a group known as ROMEOS (Retired Old Men
Eating Out).
